Olavius algarvensis : ウィキペディア英語版 | Olavius algarvensis
''Olavius algarvensis'' is a gutless oligochaete worm. ==Habitats and research== The worm lives in sediments in front the coast of the Italian island Elba. The existence of gutless worms was discovered in the 1970s/80s. They were first observed near Bermuda.〔Giere, O. 1979. Studies on marine Oligochaeta from Bermuda, with emphasis on new ''Phallodrilus'' species (Tubificidae). Cah. Biol. Mar. 20:301-314.〕 Research on Oligochaete worms from the Pacific Ocean at Peru revealed 10 years ago that these worms lived from symbiotic bacteria.〔Blazejak A, Erséus C, Amann R, Dubilier N.: ''Coexistence of bacterial sulfide oxidisers, sulfate reducers, and spirochetes in a gutless worm (Oligochaeta) from the Peru margin.'' in: Appl Environ Microbiol. 2005 Mar;71(3):1553-61. PMID 15746360〕 Recently Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen studied the anatomy and physiology of ''O. algarvensis'' in detail.〔Ruehland C, Blazejak A, Lott C, Loy A, Erséus C, Dubilier N.: ''Multiple bacterial symbionts in two species of co-occurring gutless oligochaete worms from Mediterranean sea grass sediments.'' in: Environ Microbiol. 2008 Dec;10(12):3404-16. PMID 18764872〕
